bed bugs control

Bed Bug Control

Bed bugs are one of the most common indoor pest concerns out there. Many homeowners will find bed bugs during their life, and it’s important to know what to do, in case of bed bugs. In the lines below, we’ll explore the dangers of bed bugs and what it means to call a professional pest removal company.

Why you need to get rid of bed bugs…

These tiny, brown creepy crawlies may not look like much at a first glance. But in truth, they pose quite a serious threat to you and your home, if left unattended. The number one reason why you want to get rid of bed bugs as swiftly as possible is that they’re known to bite humans (requiring blood to shed their skin). Although they’re not commonly associated with many diseases, bed bugs do bite and it is highly unpleasant and uncomfortable.

Secondly, bed bugs reproduce rapidly and will soon enough cover the entirety of the bedroom, and subsequently the house, so you want to act quickly.

What do professional bed bug removal services do?

You may be tempted to attempt some DIY bed bug removal methods, but we seriously caution against it. While you may be able to tackle a larger intruder, such as an opossum, for example, on your own, you’re less apt to deal with hundreds of minute bugs.

Second, bear in mind that every day means more bed bugs on your property, ergo a growing problem. Bed bugs need to be disposed of swiftly and efficiently, and the best way to do that is through a professional bed bug removal service.

Bed bug removal 101

Every bed bug removal service begins with a thorough inspection by a professional pest removal service. By inspecting the bedroom, but also the rest of the house, the professional pest removal team will be able to ascertain the presence of the infestation. This will also allow the removal team to assess the situation and the severity of the infestation.

Next, once the assessment stage is over, the removal specialist will determine the best course of action depending on your particular situation. This means they will decide upon a specific treatment, and also on the rooms of the house that require said treatment. In bed bug removal, it’s preferable to be needlessly cautious than to risk missing even one bed bug. As we mentioned, bed bugs multiply rapidly, and if the bed bug removal process isn’t thorough, you risk another infestation within a few months’ time.

Next in the bed bug removal process, we have the treatment itself. Depending on the course of action chosen by your professional removal company, this may take some time and inconvenience you temporarily. But trust us, it’ll be worth it, in the end.

Lastly, the bed bug removal service will shift its focus from removal itself to prevention and monitoring. Bed bugs are tricky to eradicate completely, so it’s quite possible that the removal company will schedule a follow-up visit. During this second inspection, they’ll be able to assess the efficiency of their chosen removal method.

During this follow-up, the removal expert will also be able to recommend the next steps for maintaining your home, as well as ensuring future prevention.

When should you call a bed bug removal professional?

Ideally, you’ll want to call the bed bug removal service as soon as you begin to suspect the presence of bed bugs. In this case, the sooner you catch the infestation, the better your chances of minimizing the damage and protecting the rest of your home. So always be on the lookout for signs of a bed bug infestation and call us at A&D Construction Plus for all of your wildlife and pest removal needs!

ants removal

How to Get Rid Of Ants

Ants are communal animals, and they live in colonies. So, if you spot a few ants walking inside or outside your house, there’s certainly more where they come from. While there are about 1,000 species of ants in the US, thankfully, only a few species may reside in your home, sting, or cause real damage.

And for these few nuisance pest species, how do you send them packing for good? Here’s what A&D Construction Plus have found to work effectively:

First things First – Identify the species

Although ant species share certain behavior, they also exhibit different behaviors that can give you insight into their nesting habits. Knowing where to find the colony is important for getting rid of them.

Take a picture of the ant and compare it to online fact sheets on ant species. Or you can send it to an expert or your local university for identification.

Tips for Removing Indoor Ants

If there are ants inside your house, these are some tips for getting rid of them.

  • Remove attractant

If there are ants in your house, there’s a strong reason they’re inside. Pharaoh ants (or sugar ants), for instance, can be inside your house because of that spilled sugar on the floor or a sticky drip of honey on the side of a jar.

Locating what’s attracting them indoors requires a bit of detective work. But once it is removed or cleaned up, the ants may leave on their own.

  • Disrupt ant trails

To find food, ants send out a team of scouts. These scout ants leave behind pheromone, which serves as a trail to guide other ants in the direction of the food source. To remove this trail, make a solution containing one part of vinegar to three parts of water. Spray the solution in areas you’ve found ants.

  • Use repellents

Ants hate the scent of certain substances like peppermint and lavender oil. You can use these natural ingredients to make a solution to repel ants. There are also chemical repellents like boric acid you can use. But because they are usually harmful to pets and children, make sure you use them with care.

  • Kill them using ant baits

Avoid the temptation to step on ants that you find indoors. Instead, make use of ant bait. Ant bait is a mixture of food and slow-acting poison that worker ants collect and bring back to the colony to share. Ant bait helps to kill ants from the root source.

Tips for Removing Outdoor Ants

Several outdoor ants are beneficial to gardens and the ecosystem in general. But if you have ones that are causing a nuisance, this is what you can do:

  • Locate their nest

Some ant infestation problems are best handled by getting rid of the nest altogether. For instance, carpenter ants cause significant structural damage to wood. You can easily find the nest of carpenter ants by making small holes in water-damaged woods. Some ant species like Formica ants build ant hills that they live in.

  • Kill them

Once you’ve found an ant nest, spray it with an insecticide containing permethrin, bifenthrin, or deltamethrin. Pouring hot water into their nest can also be used to kill them. Do well to repair damaged structures if applicable.

How to Prevent Ants from Entering Your Home

How’s how you can keep ants out for good:

  • Seal up potential entry holes into your home. Small cracks and crevices in doors, windows, and foundations are usually potential entry spots.
  • Store your foodstuff in airtight containers
  • Do your dishes once you’re done eating as ants are attracted to leftovers.
  • Ensure that your trash cans are properly closed at all times.
  • Trim bushes, branches, and shrubs in contact with your house as they can serve as bridges for ants to get inside.

Keep your yard clean.

Wrap up

If you’re unable to resolve your ant infestation problem on your own, then you need to bring in professionals. A&D Construction Plus delivers effective ant removal services that will get rid of nuisance ants for good.
